Educating the Children

Mary Ann Tous carries on in the tradition of
her aunt, Ila Loetscher, in reaching out to the children to teach them about the endangered sea turtles and what they can do to help them such as keeping the beach clean of trash.

Here, in this picture, Mary Ann Tous gives a patriotic show just before the 4th of July, on
June 24, 2008, about sea turtles to children
at the Port Isabel Library in Texas.

Using plush stuffed animals, colorful puppets
and an engaging style, Mary Ann both entertains and educates her young audience.
Indeed, she makes such a connection with the children that many of them now refer to her as the new Turtle Lady.

Texas Turtle Day

Because the sea turtle presentation of 2008 was so popular at the Port Isabel Library, Mary Ann was asked back in the summer of 2009 for Texas Turtle Day to again speak to the local children about the Turtle Lady and how important it is to help sea turtles.

As before, the program was a grand success and the children all left afterward as official sea turtle ambassadors, ready to share what they had learned with their friends, families, and neighbors.
